words for Haley Reinhart in regard to her performance of the song Earth Song by Michael Jackson. I usually can abide Randy’s comments until this year as he is afraid to talk about tempo or rhythm – or anything else of objectivity for that matter.
This song though was judged directly after Judge Jackson gave the guy who got kicked off after singing “Don’t Stop Believing,” a song based in the the Beatles song “Let It Be” that has an excellent bass line by Jackson himself.

Randy loved it – I thought to myself, well, it’s a bad version of the Journey original but was not original. Randy was beside himself criticizing Reinhart for not “going at least a fifth or an octave higher,” “not having the R + B chops of the ‘great’ Michael Jackson,” and “sounded like she was screaming the same note over and over.” I very strongly disagreed with Randy on these, and I thought: everyone has an off night, everyonehas an opinion.

The speeds of the songs are almost identical, though I measured Michael’s version at the inaudibly slightly higher 69.2 beats per minute (BPM) to Haley’s 69.0 BPM, a degree of error that could be the fault of the Annie Sullivan Jackson measurements.
